Review: The Second We Met by Maya Hughes

The Second We Met was an all around good time. It has a strong plot, dynamic characters, and a to die for romance. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

The Second We Met tells the story of Nix and Ellie. After an unfortunate first meeting, Ellie grows a strong dislike for her football playing neighbor, Nix. In the span of a year, she contacts the campus police on him many times due to him and his friends loud parties. Little does she know, that there is more to him than meets the eye.

Like mentioned earlier, this was a pleasant read. I have little to none complaints or criticism. I found the pacing to be superb. It had a nice and steady buildup that allowed time for the plot to breath and progress. The writing was simple, yet captivating.

Characters

One of my favorite things about this book was the characters. I want more of Nix and Ellie. I fell in love with their love.
They had a mature and honest relationship. They worked well together. And when they encountered tough times, they always found a way back together. They warmed my heart.

Literally everyone, besides one person, was outstanding people. Character motives were clear, and never did they seem out of character or unrealistic. All of their dreams and goals felt real. There was a real sense of development amongst all. Including the supporting characters.

Although they were just supporting characters, I couldn't help but get attached to them as well. Ellie's roommate/best friend, Jules, was a scene stealer. She was a great and interesting character, who I think was utilized perfectly in this book. I hope she gets her own book because she has a great story that I would love to dive into.

Final Analysis

The Second We Met is a great enemies to lovers romance that deserves all the love. The story is well planned and the characters are well developed.
