Spotlight: Scorched by Don Silver

Can you ever outrun your past? 1970s Philadelphia. When his dad suddenly dies, 15-year-old Jonas Shore tries to support himself and his mom by selling drugs to his classmates. Before too long, he’s busted and sent to a boarding school for fatherless boys. In order to survive Lafayette Academy, Jonas and his roommates form a tight bond. The boys vow to have each others’ backs for life, but that promise is broken the weekend before graduation when they’re drawn into a violent encounter. Twenty years later, when one of his old roommates shows up unannounced, Jonas is forced to confront his complicated past once and for all.

Set to a killer soundtrack with Zeppelin, Bowie and Philly R&B, "Scorched" is an engrossing portrait of a young man’s coming-of-age and a gripping look at what happens when his past finally catches up with him.
