Janie Adams has been a single parent to her nephew since he was a baby. Fifteen years later, sheβs finally found out who his father might be, so the two of them travel across the country to find him. Sheβd do anything for this kid. But when they arrive in the small town of Wishing River, Montana, and Janie finally meets the ruggedly handsome cowboy sheβd been told had abandoned his son, his shocked response changes everything.
Aiden Rivers canβt dispute this is his kid when he sees his own features staring back at him, but he had no idea Janieβs sister was pregnant when she left him. He didnβt even know she had a sisterβclearly theyβd all been lied to. Now he has fifteen years of fatherhood to make up for and no idea how to be a dad. This was never in his plans.
Janie sticks around to help him ease into parenting, everything from showing him how to lure a sulky kid out of his bedroom to keeping up with the latest teen-speak. Together, they surprisingly make a good team, this city girl and country boy. But when the past catches up with them, Aiden and Janie must decide whatβs best for the boy who's connecting them, not only for each otherβ¦which could mean splitting them apart.

βWell, Iβm wiped. Iβm going straight to bed,β she said, hopping out of the truck and deciding she needed to grow up and stop fantasizing about this man like she was a teenager.
She waited on the porch, shifting from one foot to the other as he looked for the house key. βDoes it always snow this much out here?β she mumbled.
βNope. Usually more.β He shot her a glance and was about to put the key in the door when he stopped. And then he was back to the Aiden she was beginning to know. The guy with the easy charm. βBefore we go in, I justβ¦ Iβm glad you had a good time tonight, Janie.β
She tilted her head, feeling like there was more there. Maybe it was the wine, or maybe it was that she just knew that she wanted a little more of that feelingβ¦that feeling that he brought out in her that made her take a step closer to him. βI did. Thank youβI mean not thank youβfor bringing me into your world here.β His eyes softened at that, and it encouraged her to go on. βEveryone had great things to say about you. Also, do you know the women in this town have all had a crush on you at some point? And the guys may be slightly miffed at that.β
He ducked his head, and she found that little bit of modesty quite attractive. βAn exaggeration for sure,β he said, lifting his head and looking deep into her eyes like he was searching for something.
βIβ¦Iβm not exactly sure what the allure is, frankly.β
His eyes widened, and then he laughed. He took a step closer to her, close enough that she could see the darker flecks of blue in his eyes. βReally?β
She nodded, kind of giddy at having his undivided attention. βI was trying to think what it could be about you that everyone seems to find so appealingβ¦β
The way his grin faltered almost made her stop teasing him. Like he might think she was being serious.
βAnd?β His deep voice seemed to curl around her heart and tug until she couldnβt help but drop the humor and tell him how she really felt.
βItβs that your insides are reflected on the outside. You see, the man Iβm coming to know is hardworking and strong and noble. And that kind of character is reflected in your beautiful face,β she whispered. She held her breath, feeling silly when he just stood there.
But then he lifted his handβhis warm, work-roughened handβand gently delved into the hair at the nape of her neck. βJanieβ¦β
The way he said her name, as though it came from somewhere deep inside, made her feel like she was the most special woman in the world.

About Victoria James
Victoria James is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance.
Victoria always knew she wanted to be a writer and in grade five, she penned her first story, bound it (with staples and a cardboard cover) and did all the illustrations herself. Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.
In high school she fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, Victoria pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened her own business. After her first child, Victoria knew it was time to fulfill her dream of writing romantic fiction.
Victoria is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.
