Review: One Hundred Percent Me by Renee Macalino Rutledge and illustrated by Anita Prades

One Hundred Percent Me is a nice story of a young girl who’s exploring her background of mixed heritage. As the book celebrates different moments defining her features unique to her, it’s always interesting the conversation that sparks the curiosity of what you are. As she learns to embrace what is unique to her as well as claim features and characteristics she shares with her family, the message of being 100% herself really is such a positive takeaway.

This is a book that will resonate with young readers who have mixed cultural backgrounds. For some many who get that question often of what are you or where are you from, this is a sweet book for those young readers to embrace and love who they are individually.

The book has 32 pages. Ages 4-8.

Review: All the Places We Call Home Patrice Gopo and illustrated by Jenin Mohammed

All the Places We Call Home is a beautiful story with colorful and vibrant illustrations that will grab your heart. One of the best gifts and influences on a young child are the timeless stories that inspire love and pride for who you are and where you come from. Beautifully written, we are swept away with colorful illustrations that tell the stories of generation, culture and love for places beyond our current reach. These stories either from our past or present can hold a special place in our heart no matter where you are.

The inspiration behind what inspires the stories shared before this young child goes to sleep is so touching because those are the moments that become memorable. I absolutely adore the curiosity inspired from the globe that encourages the quench to know more about the memories that represent her family. This is the first picture book from this author and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does and hopefully with a collaboration with this illustrator. This is a lovely book to add to your collection

Review: Super You! by Anne Kennedy Brady and Illustrated by Ela Smietanka

Super You! was a fun board book with colorful, engaging illustrations that would be an enthusiastic read aloud. What a great message that the book shares with your child. The book celebrates all the ways your child embodies a superhero. It compares superhero qualities with personal traits celebrating them. This would be a book that would spark their imagination and make them feel good about themselves. One thing I absolutely loved was how the book represented so many different types of people which in turn they could see themselves. I know I'm not the target reader but that inner kid in me thoroughly enjoyed it. I think you will love this one.
